Hildegard of Bingen on Metals and the Mind (1150 AD)

Hildegard of Bingen — abbess, polymath, Doctor of the Church — wrote in her Physica (c. 1150 AD) that different metals produced different effects on cognition. Tin was associated with clarity and resistance to external corruption of the mind. An 875-year-old prescription for cognitive defense.
