Verify a Certified Product
Every product bearing the TFRi certification mark carries a unique verification code on its tag or packaging. This system exists so you can confirm that what you purchased was actually tested, and not merely wrapped in conductive material by someone who watched a YouTube video.
System Status
The product verification system is currently offline.
Due to an unprecedented volume of verification requests — which we interpret as either a positive indicator of market growth or a troubling indicator of counterfeit proliferation, and possibly both — our verification infrastructure is operating beyond capacity. We are expanding the system. We cannot provide a timeline for completion because providing inaccurate timelines would undermine the institutional credibility we have spent decades constructing.
We recognize the irony of a certification body that cannot currently verify its own certifications. We ask that you hold this irony with the same methodological rigor we apply to our research: observe it, document it, and resist the urge to draw premature conclusions.
In the Interim
While the automated verification system is unavailable, you can confirm a product’s certification status through the following methods:
Visual inspection: Certified products display the TFRi seal on their packaging and a simplified stamp mark on the garment tag. The mark must appear in one of three authorized color combinations: navy on white, black on white, or white on dark background. If the mark appears in any other color, or if it has been modified, stretched, or rendered at low resolution, the product may not be certified. Or the manufacturer may simply have a bad graphic designer. We cannot distinguish between fraud and incompetence from the mark alone.
Email verification: Send the product name, manufacturer, and the certification code from the tag to verify@tinfoilresearch.com. Our team will confirm or deny certification status within 5–10 business days. Response times vary based on volume and the current complexity of our inbox, which we do not discuss publicly.
Authorized retailers: Products purchased through authorized retail partners — including TINFOIL™ — carry valid certification by default. If you purchased from an authorized retailer and have concerns about authenticity, the issue is between you and your sense of trust, not between you and our database.
Report Unauthorized Use
If you encounter a product displaying the TFRi certification mark that you believe is not certified, please report it to compliance@tinfoilresearch.com. Include photographs of the product, packaging, and tag.
We investigate all reports. We take unauthorized use of our mark seriously — a position that we acknowledge sounds unusual for an organization whose primary research subject is headwear made of kitchen supplies. The seriousness is not performative. Standards that are not enforced are not standards. They are suggestions.
Verification system status is updated quarterly. Last update: February 2026. Next scheduled update: Q2 2026. If the system comes online before the scheduled update, we will announce it. If it does not, we will not draw attention to the delay, because doing so would be redundant with this paragraph.
