Advancing the Science of Electromagnetic Cognitive Defense
TFRi is the world’s only independent certification body for cognitive protection equipment. We establish testing standards, publish peer-reviewed research, and maintain the certification protocols that separate engineered protection from improvised foil.
“The absence of evidence is not evidence of absence — but the absence of investigation, in the presence of paradoxical findings, is evidence of something.”TFRi Position Statement, Revised 2024
Institute Divisions
TFRi operates two primary divisions to fulfill its mandate.
Research Division
Compilation, analysis, and publication of research relevant to electromagnetic cognitive defense. Our archive includes primary research, meta-analyses of adjacent fields, literature reviews, and investigation of the documented research gap in electromagnetic shielding studies.
Current research areas include: electromagnetic attenuation measurement, cognitive impact of EMF exposure, psychological priming mechanisms, self-directed neurological modification, and humor as a cognitive defense vector.

Development and maintenance of testing standards for electromagnetic cognitive protection equipment. Products bearing the TFRi certification mark have been evaluated against our published standards for signal attenuation, frequency response, resonance avoidance, and material integrity.
TFRi certification specifically addresses the amplification patterns identified in the MIT 2005 study — ensuring products attenuate rather than amplify at government-allocated frequencies.
View Certification Standards →The TFRi Certification Mark
The TFRi certification mark indicates that a product has been independently evaluated against our published standards for electromagnetic cognitive defense. Certified products demonstrate measurable signal attenuation without the resonance amplification patterns documented in uncertified designs.
Certification is not an endorsement of specific health claims. TFRi certifies that a product performs as engineered — whether the user attributes the resulting cognitive clarity to physics, psychology, or placebo is outside our scope and, frankly, outside anyone’s current ability to determine.

Advisory Board
TFRi’s work is guided by an advisory board whose members have requested anonymity for professional reasons that we consider entirely reasonable given the subject matter.
Board composition and institutional affiliations are available upon request to credentialed researchers with demonstrable independence from government-funded electromagnetic research programs. This requirement is not paranoia. It is methodology.
